Swamp Cooler Belt Tension
A common problem is the fan belt that runs from the fan motor to the fan blade axle.
Swamp cooler belt tension. So while your cooler will run you ll have to. Once inside check the tension of the belt running from the swamp cooler motor to the fan. Roughly speaking there should be about one inch of play in the tension of your fan belt. When pressed it should move about one half inch.
The tightening of the belt is a straightforward and simple operation. Lightly oil the bearing on the blower assembly and the motor if it has an oil receptacle. Install new cooler pads. This belt can become loose if it becomes worn and stretches out over time or if the motor slips in its sliding mount.
Step 3 check shaft bearings. Will too much belt tension on a swamp cooler cause the motor to burn out. Most motors on swamp coolers have an automatic reset thermal overload. Check the motor s fan belt tension.
